Ronde Van Stoney

tandem; Ronde Van Stoney 001
Nancy and I drove over to Stoney Creek Metro Park and took part in the Ronde Van Stoney bike race, a 40 mile Barry Roubaix style race.  We did this on our tandem and finished the race in 2hr 13min, good for second place in the tandem cat.  Not bad for a first race on our tandem.
The race started with two waves, tandems were in the first wave with the expert/elite guys.   I swung the tandem around in the middle of the drive way to wait for the line up then bikes started lining up with us.  I’m like hold it-we’re not leading this race out!!    It didsn’t last long,  the ten MPH roll out ended up being 36 MPH.
The race was fun with 2.5 miles of two track at the start and 3 miles at the end, the rest was a mix of pavement, dry dirt roads, and very muddy dirt roads.  Endless rolling hills, but nothing like the BR.  Nancy did a great job as a stoker,  I couldn’t get here of my wheel:-)
