It was a HUGE weekend for the Founder’s Race team!
I recall an event about eleven years ago. Rick, a couple other guys and I were sitting in the pub having beer after his first Kisscross race and Rick said “Michigan needs a 100 mile mountain bike race.” Well, the rest is history! Rick hosted his historic TENTH Lumberjack-100 race! It was a sold out event. Congratulations to Rick on creating this epic race.
Two current team members and one former took to the north woods of the Manistee National Forest Big-M site to take on the tenth Lumberjack-100 race Saturday June 21st.
Shawn Crowley had his system down with precision attention to heart rate and pace and finished the 100 miles in 8:52 for a position of 86th of 177 in the Open Category!
Dennis Murphy completed the course in with a time of 9:18 and a position of 23rd of 42 in Masters Men Category.
Ralf Sharnowski suited up in his Founder’s kit for a 122nd position in Open Men with a time of 9:36.
Back down in civilization, other Founder’s racers participated in the State Games of Michigan mountain bike race held at Cannonsburg Ski Area Sunday June 22. The course included the new “Red Loop” for the first time to present a fresh new race trail to returning participants. The team was well represented with podium and near-podium finishes!
Women: Marnie Tencate- fresh off hard work as a Lumberjack volunteer Saturday, zoomed back to Grand Rapids to race Sunday and grab a 3rd place podium finish!
Expert/Elite Single-Speed: Tom Stolz toughed out the four lap expert course with a podium finish at 2nd place. Scott Thenikl had the near miss for the podium finishing 4th in the same category.
Expert Men 30-39: Matt Remelts rocketed to a 1st place finish and top spot on the podium.
Expert Men 50+: Tim Curtis grabbed a 7th place spot in the tough field for the four lap race.
Great job team!!
